Here it is! I'm still writing up the pattern. I hope to seriously have it posted by this weekend for free. I really appreciate comments from individuals who are thinking of making the project or have made it (I love pictures even more of the finished sweaters!!)
This sweater is totally seam free. You even knit the pocket straight on to the back of the sweater so you don't have to sew the pocket on. I knit this first sweater out of red and white worsted weight yarn - but my next sweater for Mia will be made out of maize and blue for the University of Michigan ("Go Blue!") So I'm calling this the "Varsity Sweater" - make it in your favorite team colors!
This sweater is written for 3 sizes - from a 6 lb maltese sized dog to a 20 lb. schnauzer. Come back soon for the finished pattern!

This pattern is available under freebies on the side panel. It's called "Varsity dog sweater".
Hope that helps! - Sarah
Hi Sarah! I am knitting the Varsity in a SM for one of my 3 chihuahuas. I am dying to knit one in XS for my little Mimi. Any suggestions? I tried starting it on 4 dpns and it's kinda frustrating and hard to keep up with all the shifting of the stitches. Mimi weighs under 3 lbs. so any other sweater ideas for a tiny princess? I LOVE your site! thanks for the inspiration and for sharing!
Gosh Jeanne... I have no idea what the dimensions for a 3 lb Chihuahua would even be! Perhaps knitting the sweater following the small pattern but knitting it in a dk or sock weight yarn and going down in needle size to accommodate the lighter yarn (perhaps a US 2 or 3?). Then customize the length of body and length of legs accordingly. That would be my best suggestion. If it works - let me know!! Good luck... - Sarah
Thanks. I figure if I can knit socks on dpn, it would be somewhere aroung that same width...i will have to experiment. Also, I had trouble with casting back on to the circular needle after closing the armholes. I always use the long-tail cast on. Is that what you used?
Long tail cast on doesn't work after the arms holes. I use the "backward loop" cast-on method - but any cast on that you can do to add several stitches to the middle of a knitted piece works. Google "backward loop cast-on" and you'll see all sorts of tutorials and perhaps a different technique you may like. Let me know how the super tiny dog sweater turns out! I'm excited! - Sarah
Love the pattern! It worked for my little poodle too - check it out if you would like! I put a your link in to give you credit :)
